It is with sadness that we learned of the death of life member Alan Bartlett. A long time supporter of the Burnham Sailing Club he started off in a Stella, Torrington. He moved on to Trophy and is probably best remembered for sailing Hops, Steps Ahead and most recently Inn Spirit. You may spot a theme in most of the boat names, Alan was a publican, owning the Torrington Arms in North London. As a staunch Burnham Sailing Club member he would only represent us in the Burnham Week Team Trophy…sadly it became a standing joke that we always had to pick a reserve as he went through a phase of losing his mast every Burnham Week! He was a lovely gentleman to sail with and against, and whilst ill health has kept him away in recent years, he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
