Kayaks at the BSC

Fancy getting out on the water, the adventure starts here.

Gain experience and confidence on the water, with our coaches and experienced kayakers to hand. For our regular paddles on the River Crouch we use Sea or Touring kayak's, these are designed for paddling on open waters, the paddler is seated with a covered deck with a well, or cockpit, into which the paddler snugly fits, then using a double-bladed paddle pull the blade through the water on alternate sides to move forward.

There are many different styles and manufacturers of Sea kayaks, a minimum length needs to be at least 14 feet long (river boats) for paddling in bays and inlets, preferably longer, up to 18 feet if you plan to paddle in open or rough water.

We have planned group paddles on the River Crouch, every Wednesday evening during season, starting at the end of March and running up to early October. You can paddle using your own Sea / Touring Kayak, or for a small fee, rent one of the kayaks we have available, this includes all the kit required to get you out on the river.

The floating pontoon which extends out into the river allows for all year round access without getting muddy feet.

The Crouch Kayak Club also runs trips away from the River crouch during the year and organise camping adventures, for these trips we have smaller river kayaks and canoe’s available to rent.
